Footballer scores insanely lucky penalty after spinning ball bounces into net despite smacking crossbar

April 10, 2019

A young footballer in Mexico is being credited with one of the luckiest goals of all time after scoring a ludicrous off the cross bar effort during a penalty shootout.

Diego Campillo stepped up first for Chivas in their under-17s game against Lobos BUAP on Sunday, but his attempt appeared to be a miss after his blistering kick saw the ball smack the cross bar and soar into the air.

The ball hung in the air so long, Campillo had time to turn and walk away from the penalty spot disappointed with himself while Lobos' goalkeeper got off the ground and gathered himself.

Cue a bit of luck and magic.

The ball finally came back down and bounced just outside the goal, but the spin on it saw it vault forward and into the goal, giving Campillo the penalty and stunned commentators something to laugh about.

When Campillo realised what had happened, he walked away from the goal in disbelief.

Chivas went on to win the shootout 4-2.
