'I feel sad' - former Football Fern disappointed female Ballon d’Or winner was asked about twerking

Ada Hegerberg was named the best woman footballer on the planet today, but Maia Jackman says her moment was stolen by silly remark by French DJ Martin Solveig.

Former Football Fern Maia Jackman says Norwegian footballer Ada Hegerberg had her big moment stolen from her at the Ballon d'Or awards today.

Hegerberg became the first female to win at the Ballon d'Or awards, but had her moment spoilt after the host - French DJ Martin Solveig - asked if she knew how to do the twerk dance move.

Jackman said she was disappointed for Hegerberg.

"I feel sad because it's a very historical moment that's been overshadowed by this guy saying can you twerk to Ada and it's taken the moment away from her," said Jackman.

"Almost sexualised the moment for entertainment purposes.

"I think in this moment there needed to be some respect held for the significance of the moment and that Ada made history for the first woman to ever be awarded this award."

Solveig took to Twitter after the awards, apologising for his remarks.
