Fernando Santos is giving Australian referee Benjamin Williams an absolute earful and gets ordered off the pitch and into the stands.

This match will be decided by penalties. Strap yourself in.

120+1mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

Navas keeps his side in the World Cup with another brilliant save. Mitroglou fires inside the six-yard box but the keeper's hip is in the right place to deflect the ball.

118mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

Fatigue has well and truly set in here. Mitroglou shoots and sends the ball towards the roof of the stadium.

Two minutes of added time.

114mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

A chance goes begging for Greece. In a five-on-two situation Christodoulopoulos keeps hold of it and launches a shot from a ridiculous angle. Navas punches clear.

112mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

Cubero cuts back from the touchline. Campbell can't get a flick on it, but a Greece defender deflects over the bar.

105mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

Costa Rica begin the final 15 minutes of this match with the ball.

HALFTIME IN EXTRA TIME: Costa Rica 1-1 Greece

103mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

After absorbing immense pressure, 10-man Costa Rica muster all the energy they have left as Breres gets into the area but can't link up with Ruiz.

99mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

Greece are tearing through Costa Rica at every opportunity. Another Greece corner sparks panic, but the whistle goes to provide some respite.

95mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

And again ... this time Karagounis nails his header but wide of the posts. Well wide.

93mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

Two chances already for Greece. The first shot was saved, the second didn't quite come off as Samaras was called for offside.

92mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

For the first time in history Costa Rica and Greece kick-off extra time at the World Cup.

We are headed for extra time.

93mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

SAVE! Navas leaps high in the air to punch Mitroglou's header clear. He fell awkwardly on his shoulder and is treated by medical staff.

91mins - CRC 1-1 GRE

GOAL! Fans are going ballistic after Papastathopoulos equalises for Greece. Gekas's effort is saved by Navas, but he can only paw the ball out to the centre half who powers the ball home for his first international goal.

Extra time it is after #GRE's 91st-minute equalizer vs. down-a-man #CRC puts us at 1-1. Unreal #WorldCup. #CRCGRE

90mins CRC 1-0 GRE

Five minutes to be added to this one.

89mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

Navas gets cautioned for time wasting.

88mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

With what will probably be their last real chance of the match, Greece come close as Christodoulopoulos puts a low cross into the six-yard box. Navas can't grab it first time, but nor can Mitroglou trap it and the ball bounces back into the keeper's hands.

86mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

Costa Rica on the verge of securing a quarter-final match-up against the Netherlands. Greece still chasing hard.

84mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

A stunning ball from Torosidis puts Gekas in behind the Costa Rica back four, but he can't quite tame the ball and it dribbles away for a goal kick.

79mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

Karagounis hammers a free-kick way over the bar and into the crowd.

78mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

Gamboa, being shoved and nudged off by Greece players, is eventually off. Acosta comes on.

And Katsouranis is on for Maniatis.

73mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

Manolas is next in the line for yellow cards. He is the second player to be cautioned for flying into the back of Campbell.

71mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

Ruiz picks up the next yellow card and, realising the dangerous situation his side is in, he makes no argument with referee Williams.

69mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

That sending off might just Costa Rica this match. Meanwhile, Salpingidis goes off. Theo Gekas is on.

66mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

Second booking, and red, for Duarte, who takes down Cholevas.

Cubero replaces Tejera.

65mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

Karnezis looks sillier with every replay you see of that goal.

61mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

On comes Kostas Mitroglou, with Samaris heading off.

55min - CRC 1-0 GRE

Costa Rica substitute goalkeeper, Oscar Granados is booked.

53mins - CRC 1-0 GRE

GOAL!  Karnezis stands in his goal a little embarrassed as Ruiz slots one past him. Before Ruiz had even received Campbell's cross, Karnezis had already decided he was going to hop to his right. The shot, which was medium pace at best, gave him enough time to turn his head in the other direction to watch it roll in.

43mins - CRC 0-0 GRE

Duarte is booked for bringing down Christodoulopoulos. Free-kick in dangerous position.

39mins - CRC 0-0 GRE

SAVE! Navas unintentionally saves a shot with his shin as he was falling the wrong way. It was the perfect cross from Cholevas, who found Salpingidis inside the six-yard box. From point blank range he should have scored.

37mins - CRC 0-0 GRE

Samaras is booked for going through the back of Campbell. The free kick is way out and comes to nothing.

34mins - CRC 0-0 GRE

Campbell swings a corner. Karnezis, under no pressure, plucks the ball from the air.

23mins - CRC 0-0 GRE

Maniatis brings down Joel Campbell right on the edge of the box. Dangerous free-kick but Costa Rica can't do anything with it.

20mins - CRC 0-0 GRE

There have been a few half chances for both sides since our last update, Costa Rica definitely look more dangerous now. And they probably should be after beating Uruguay and Italy in the group stage.

18mins - CRC 0-0 GRE

While we're waiting for the first goal in this one, check out what Mexico manager Miguel Herrera did to Robin van Persie.

11minsCRC 0-0 GRE

Christodoulopoulos cuts in from the left and launched another strike. This time it's low, hard and goes wide of the left post.

8mins - CRC 0-0 GRE

There's a nice feel to this game. Very evenly matched. Costa Rica's fans almost had a reason to cheer as Bolanos' shot sailed over the crossbar.

6mins - CRC 0-0 GRE

Costa Rica with a promising break, but Campbell and Ruiz fail to finish as they lose possession.

2min - CRC 0-0 GRE

Greece get an early free-kick. It's poor but a deflection leads to Christodoulopoulos taking a wild shoot from way out.

0min - CRC 0-0 GRE

Australian referee Benjamin Williams signals for kick-off and Costa Rica get play underway.

7:56m - Teams shake hands after the national anthems. We aren't far off now.

7:39am - After their 2-1 loss to the Netherlands this morning, Mexico manager Miguel Herrera has accused Robben of diving three times and says the referee invented the penalty and mugged them of a spot in the quarter-final.

Not sure about three incidents, but the one that counted sure does look suspect. After Robben went down in added time, Klaas Jan Huntelaar netted the match-winning penalty. That was after Wesley Sneijder levelled the scores three minutes from time.

Anyway, it's history now.

Pre match

Kick-off is at 8:00m (NZT).

Costa Rica and Greece are set to clash in a match that no one expected to happen. Many believed that the Costa Ricans would be the 'whipping boys' of Group D, but the Ticos proved everyone wrong and finished on top of the table by eliminating the likes of Italy and England and leaving Uruguay behind.

Greece made it through after a last-minute penalty shot by former Celtic star Giorgos Samaras which boosted their morale to great heights.
