'You have to adapt' – Keep Eden Park as cricket venue, says Ish Sodhi

February 9, 2019

The Black Caps spinner says the batsman friendly conditions shouldn't take away from the venue.

Black Caps spinner Ish Sodhi has defended Eden Park's status as a cricket ground, following New Zealand's seven wicket defeat to India last night.

With Eden Park's small boundaries and unfriendly conditions for bowlers, calls have remained consistent for the Auckland stadium to be removed as an international cricket venue.

Sodhi, though, says he's in favour of keeping Eden Park in the international schedule, eager to have New Zealand's biggest city continue to host matches.

"I personally really enjoy playing at Eden Park," Sodhi began.

"I think it's really entertaining for the crowd as well. You generally get a pretty decent crowd here.

"The only thing that comes into speculation is the short boundaries, but every ground has its own characteristics. The wicket plays a certain way and the boundaries are just a bit smaller here.

"It's something that you have to adapt to."
