Women's T20 final goes down to the final ball as Wellington win after missed run out

January 21, 2019

The Wellington Blaze have won a dramatic women’s T20 Super Smash final with a single off the last delivery as the Canterbury bowler missed a direct hit run out.

A disastrous penultimate over of the Blaze’s chase turned what appeared to be an easy chase of the Magicians’ total of 131 into a thriller.

Amelia Kerr was run out for 28 after a mix-up with captain Liz Perry, who was bowled later in that over.

The over left the Blaze needing eight from the last over with two new batswomen at the crease.

After four runs from the four first deliveries of the over, Jess Kerr managed to squeeze a drive just over the fielder at short third man with the Blaze pair running three.

Suzie McDonald then scrambled through for a single as Frankie Mackay missed with a shy at the stumps off her own bowling.

The win secured the Blaze back-to-back titles.
