The Black Caps have the difficult task of trying to stop superstar West Indies batsman Chris Gayle, who believes his side can turn things around after a horrid start to their New Zealand tour.
Gayle, 38, touched down in Auckland today as he prepares to take part in the three match ODI series against the Black Caps.
New Zealand defeated the West Indies emphatically in Christchurch and Hamilton to take out the Test series 2-0.
"Yeah it was tough Tests for the guys but we have to dust ourselves off and move onto the ODIs," said Gayle.
"We are actually in a building phase leading up to the World Cup qualifiers, so we are just looking to see where our strengths are and then we can actually put pieces together.
"These games are important, it's good to get wins under your belt and win series as well."
Gayle said the Black Caps have an advantage playing in their own backyard.
"These conditions is always difficult to playing in and to actually beat New Zealand at home as well.
"We are up for the challenge and once we can actually get the first game on a winning note, anything is possible."
The three-match ODI series begins in Whangarei on Wednesday.
