'They didn't want to play with him again' - Aussie cricket journalist says Baggy Greens don't want David Warner back

May 8, 2018

New Australian coach David Langer hasn't closed the door on disgraced former vice-captain David Warner but an Australian cricket journalist says the players may do it for him.

Veteran cricket journalist Robert Craddock told an Australian Radio Show that a potential return to the Baggy Greens for Warner is Langer's biggest issue because half the team don't want him.

"Langer wants mateship in the team and I don't believe mateship and Warner are compatible, because half the players can't stand him, they contacted Cricket Australia saying they didn't want to play with him again," Craddock said.

While Craddock admitted player opinions on people shouldn't influence selections, he said Warner's inclusion when he became available again would go against the team's attempts to rebuild their shattered reputation after the sandpaper saga in South Africa, which the opener masterminded.

"It's not their decision but that's the vibe. If he [Langer] wants cultural shift how do you have cultural shift and Warner in the same team? That's my question.

"A lot of people [say] 'If you took Warner out of the team 'Guess what? All your behavioural problems are solved aren't they?

"But who are the other trouble makers in the team? Is there another one?."

Warner, and exiled captain Steve Smith will be available to play for Australia again early next year.
