Martin Guptill praises Black Caps teammates for 'complete performance' in big ODI win over Bangladesh

February 14, 2019

Gupitll said yesterday's performance in Napier was one the team has been looking for all summer.

Black Caps opening batsman Martin Guptill has praised his teammates for a strong, all-round performance in last night's ODI win over Bangladesh.

The Kiwi side cruised to an eight-wicket win in Napier with Guptill claiming a century in his first match since overcoming the back injury he sustained playing against India.

But Guptill, who finished 117 not out, was quick to share the praise.

"It's always pretty satisfying when you can see the team through for a win," Guptill said after carrying the bat in the match.

"But it was set up by the bowlers in the first innings - they set the tone and made sure Bangladesh couldn't get away on us."

Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner managed to take three wickets each while Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson added two apiece as they restricted the visitors to 232.

With the fielding also improved, Guptill said the win was a complete performance by the squad.

"We've been searching for it all summer.

"The bowlers really set the tone, our fielding was really good today and to start off with a 100-run partnership really set the game up for us."

The Black Caps have taken a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series with the win, with the second ODI to be played this Saturday in Christchurch.
