Welcome to 1 NEWS NOW's live updates of the third day of the pink ball Test at Eden Park.

3.50om: RAIN!  Still raining here in Auckland, doesn't look like it will let up.

2.45pm: RAIN! It doesn't look good, as rain continues to fall in Auckland delaying play on day three of the day-night Test.

1.50pm: The rain radar shows a solid band over the City of Sails. It is a little clearer north of the city though which is where the weather is coming from so fingers crossed.

RAIN! The covers are coming on. We had enough time for Nicholls to bring up his half century before the forecast rain arrived.

1.40pm: 94 overs, NZ 233/4 - Watling 18, Nicholls 52

Watling would have gone if there had been a direct hit in that over.

50! Henry Nicholls bring ups his half century. A nice innings from the left-hander that was overshadowed by Kane Williamson's history making hundred yesterday.

1.31pm: 93 overs, NZ 230/4 - Watling 18, Nicholls 49

One run off what was left of the 93rd over. Broad to bowl the second over of the day. It remains to be seen how much play there will be. Light drizzle as I type.

1.29pm: 92 overs, NZ 229/4 - Watling 17, Nicholls 49

The weather has allowed the players to take to the field, against all odds it must be said. Ali will finish his over with Watling on strike

PRE MATCH:

New Zealand will once again battle the weather as well as England with a bleak forecast for the third day of the pink ball Test at Eden Park.

Rain allowed only 23.1 overs of play yesterday, the Black Caps will resume at 229/4, 171 runs ahead of England. Henry Nicholls is unbeaten on 49 while BJ Watling was 17 not out.

If there is play New Zealand will look to push the game along quickly, add to their lead before a declaration but all of that is reliant on the weather.
