Windies survive until end of day two as Black Caps bowlers dominate in Hamilton

Relive all of the action from day two of the second Test match between New Zealand and the West Indies from Seddon Park, Hamilton.

7:35pm: 64 overs, WI 215/8 - Reifer 22*, Cummins 10*

STUMPS.  Final over of the day coming up, it'll be Wagner to bowl to Cummins. The batsmen get a single second ball, and Reifer sees out the rest of the over to end the day.

A good day for New Zealand, with the bowlers contributing some handy runs, before taking out eight of the Windies' first-innings wickets. Join us tomorrow as the Black Caps look to take the last two Windies wickets, before extending what should be a comfortable lead in their second dig.

West Indies trail by 158 runs with two wickets in hand.

7:25pm: 62.3 overs, WI 214/8 - Reifer 22*, Cummins 9*

Boult bowls to Reifer and there's an appeal for LBW, the umpire says no but Williamson wants it reviewed. There could have been a bottom edge, but ball tracking says stick with the on field decision. 

West Indies trail by 159 runs with two wickets in hand.

7:11pm: 59.3 overs, WI 204/8 - Reifer 22*, Cummins 0*

WICKET! Wagner gets another! He bowls a short ball that Roach backs away from, trying to cut him. The batsman can only manage a top edge that soars very high down to Boult at third man, who takes the catch to send Roach on his way for 17. Miguel Cummins is the new man.

West Indies trail by 169 wins with two wickets in hand.

7:04pm: 58 overs, WI 198/7 - Reifer 20*, Roach 13*

Reifer hits Wagner out of the park towards the end of the day! Wagner drops it in short, but Reifer is up to task, rocking back for a proper pull shot over the midwicket boundary.

West Indies trail by 175 with three wickets in hand.

6:47pm: 54 overs, WI 177/7 - Reifer 5*, Roach 7*

The Windies have avoided the follow on. Roach edges Wagner through the slips to the boundary to bring the deficit to under 200 runs.

6:29pm: 50.1 overs, WI 169/7 - Reifer 4*, Roach 0*

WICKET! Wagner strikes now to remove Dowrich! Another short ball from Wagner has the Windies' wicketkeeper on the back foot trying to pull. He can only manage a top edge, that goes high into the air for Wagner to get under. He takes the catch off his own bowling to send Dowrich on his way for 35. Kemar Roach the new man.

West Indies trail by 204 runs with three wickets in hand.

6:10pm: 46 overs, WI 164/6 - Dowrich 33*, Reifer 2*

Dowrich is putting up a fight for the Windies, moving along to 33 as wickets fall around him. The Windes are just nine runs adrift of the follow-on mark. This pair have added 29 in 35 balls.

5:47pm: 40.1 overs, WI 135/6 - Dowrich 11*, Reifer 0*

WICKET! Brathwaite's gone! Another stunner of a catch - this time from Southee off de Grandhomme. A leading edge from the Windies' skipper flies to Southee, who initially drops it before getting it on the second grab. Brathwaite goes for a well made 66, Reifer the new man.

5:17pm: 33.5 overs, WI 117/5 - Brathwaite 59*, Dowrich 0*

WICKET! Oh my word, it's happened again! Sunil Ambris has stood on his stumps for the second time this series! Trent Boult has pushed him back with a short pitched barrage, with Ambris going back too far to be dismissed hit wicket. He goes for two, Shane Dowrich the new man.

West Indies trail by 256 with five wickets in hand.

5:02pm: 30.4 overs, WI 112/4 - Brathwaite 56*, Ambris 0*

WICKET! Another one goes as de Grandhomme joins the party! Roston Chase just plays down the wrong line with the ball just nipping back in to rattle the stumps. Chase goes for 12. Sunil Ambris the new man. 

West Indies trail by 261 with six wickets in hand.

4:58pm: 30 overs, WI 108/3 - Brathwaite 56*, Chase 8*

This pair are really toughing things out, with the Black Caps' seamers really bowling well at the moment. Southee has been brilliant so far, giving away 15 runs from 11 over, grabbing two wickets. The partnership between the two is 18.

4:36pm: 24.1 overs, WI 94/3 - Brathwaite 51*, Chase 0*

Fifty for Brathwaite! The Windies opener smacks Wagner to the boundary to bring up his milestone. Well batted.

West Indies trail by 279 runs with seven wickets in hand.

4:31pm: 23.4 overs, WI 90/3 - Brathwaite 47*, Chase 0*

WICKET! Southee strikes after the break! He comes wide on the crease and bowls one on off stump that moves slightly away from Hope after pitching. Taylor gratefully grabs the ball at first-slip to send the Windies batsman on his way for 15. The umpires just check Southee's back foot on the return crease, but it looks ok. The Windies lose their third. Roston Chase the new man.

West Indies trail by 283 runs with seven wickets remaining.

4:23pm: 22 overs, WI 87/2 - Brathwaite 45*, Hope 14*

Tim Southee to take the ball, Brathwaite on strike. A good first over after the break from Southee, with a maiden to the Windies skipper.

West Indies trail by 286 runs with eight wickets in hand.

4:16pm

The Black Caps are back on the field, Kane Williamson leads a huddle ahead of the resumption of play. No sign of the Windies batsmen yet as the umpires make their way out onto the field. Play not far away now.

Hope and Brathwaite now stride out to the pitch, they've added 41 together so far, but they'll need a lot more if the Windies are going to put up a competitive first innings total.

Whad'ya know, the rain looks like it's staying away, and the groundstaff are out drying the field. Plays been given the green light to resume at 4:20pm.

3:50pm

It looks like the rain has stopped for now. However, we could be in for a long afternoon, with an inspection at 4pm to work out if and when play can resume.

3:41pm: 21 overs, WI 87/2 - Brathwaite 45*, Hope 14*

That will be tea. No relent from the rain, the groundstaff aren't optimistic either, this could be the end of day two if they can't get the ground dry.

3:29pm

There's no new update to give, with rain still pouring down in Hamilton. The umpires could call for an early tea break - but nothing from the officials as of yet.

2:49pm: 21 overs, WI 87/2 - Brathwaite 45*, Hope 14*

Bad news, the rain has gotten heavier, and the big covers are out on the pitch. We could be in for a pretty lengthy delay.

2:34pm: 21 overs, WI 87/2 - Brathwaite 45*, Hope 14*

Rain. The players are coming off for a light shower. The players don't race off the field, which surely is a good sign. Hopefully we'll be back in action soon.

2:22pm: 18 overs, WI 75/2 - Brathwaite 43*, Hope 4*

Brathwaite's been a very lucky man these last few overs. He's edged a couple that have either gone to the rope, or fallen short of fielders. He's moved onto 43. Hope at the other end is yet to really get started, currently not out with four. The partnership is 29 from 27 balls.

2:00pm: 13.3 overs, WI 46/2 - Brathwaite 18*, Hope 0*

WICKET! WHAT A CATCH! Trent Boult the hero here! Hetmyer pushes a checked drive back towards the bowler, Boult stretches and plucks the ball out of the air one-handed off his own bowling to send Hetmyer back to the sheds for a well made 28. Shai Hope the new man.

West Indies trail by 327 with eight wickets in hand.

1:48pm: 11 overs, WI 30/1 - Brathwaite 14*, Hetmyer 16*

Colin de Grandhomme takes the ball from the other end after lunch. He concedes only a single from his first over after the break.

West Indies trail by 343 runs with nine wickets in hand.

1:44pm: 10 overs, WI 29/1 - Brathwaite 14*, Hetmyer 15*

Trent Boult will open up after lunch, Hetmyer on strike. Second ball of the session and Hetmyer lifts the ball over mid on with a beautiful drive! Hetmyer grabs a single to see out the over.

West Indies trail by 344 runs  with nine wickets in hand.

1:36pm: 9 overs, WI 24/1 - Brathwaite 14*, Hetmyer 10*

We're back before today's second session, a bit of cloud cover has appeared overhead - meaning that the Black Caps' pace attack will be licking their lips and hoping for a bit of assistance through the air. The Windies' batsmen will have their eyes on scoring another 149 runs, looking to avoid the follow-on mark.

1pm: 9 overs, West Indies 24/1 - Brathwaite 14, Hetmyer 10

LUNCH! A strong start from New Zealand as Tim Southee dismissed Kieran Powell in the first over. The Black Caps were bowled all out for 373 with Trent Boult and Tim Southee putting on 61-runs for the last wicket.

12:47pm: 5.2 overs, West Indies 6/1 - Brathwaite 6, Hetmyer 0

The West Indies are struggling at the moment to get the scoreboard moving. Trent Boult and Tim Southee have been sensational for NZ in the opening overs with the ball.

12:31pm: 1 over, West Indies 5/1 - Brathwaite 5, Powell 0

WICKET! Southee bowls to Powell and he gets an inside edge. A poor shot from Powell. It's a length ball, pitches outside off and he leaves his bat out. The moves inwards late and gets an inside edge. Powell is out for a duck.

12:26pm: 1 over, West Indies 5/0 - Brathwaite 5, Powell 0

FOUR! Southee bowls to Brathwaite and the Windies get off to good start with a boundary early.

12:16pm: 102.2 overs, NZ 373 - Southee 31, Boult 36

WICKET!  Roach bowls to Southee and he hits it straight back to Roach who makes a straight forward catch. NZ are all out for 373 a great knock from Tim Southee and Trent Boult.

12:08pm: 98.4 overs, NZ 371/9 - Southee 29, Boult 36

SIX! Chase to Southee and Southee goes down the track and hits it from outside off - probably the biggest shot of the day. Some great hitting from NZ's tailenders.

12pm: 98.4 overs, NZ 354/9 - Southee 18, Boult 35

SIX! Gabriel bowls to Boult and he hits it over wide long-on. The most orthodox shot from Boult in this over. The delivery was too short but sat up for Boult as he made room and smashed it over the boundary.

11:52am: 97.2 overs, NZ 343/9 - Southee 18, Boult 20

FOUR! Cummins bowls to Boult - a short delivery from Cummins and Boult smashes it away through cover. Boult gets back-to-back fours. You can the visitors are starting to get frustrated.

11:48am: 96.4 overs, NZ 324/9 - Southee 18, Boult 12

SIX! Gabriel bowls to Southee, a bouncer outside off from Gabriel. Southee smashes into the trees, deep into the stands at deep square. A huge shot from Tim Southee - he definitely put a lot of power into that shot.

11:41am: 95 overs, NZ 324/9 - Southee 7, Boult 12

SIX!  Cummins bowls to Boult and the NZ batsman somehow manages to move and play a nice little upper cut to clear the shortish third man boundary. That Windies fast bowler Cummins doesn't look to happy with Boult's reaction as he laughs after his sneaky trick shot.

11:34am: 94.1 overs, NZ 312/9 - Blundell 28, Southee 7

WICKET!  Gabriel bowls to Blundell and the Windies bowler picks up his fourth wicket. The ball rolls back onto the stumps after a bottom edge from Blundell.

11:21am: 91.2 overs, NZ 307/8 - Blundell 25, Southee 5

FOUR! Roach bowls to Blundell and the Kiwi batsman hits it straight past the bowler. Perfect timing from Blundell, a great touch from NZ batsman as the ball races away towards the boundary.

11:20am: 91 overs, NZ 303/8 - Blundell 21, Southee 5

Gabriel bowls to Blundell and he makes a smart single to stay on the strikers end. 

11am: 87 overs, NZ 286/8 - Blundell 12, Wagner 1

WICKET!  Roach bowls to Wagner and Hope goes full stretch to his left to pull off a great one handed grab. The ball swung away late and Wagner edges it to Hope. A wonderful start for the Windies.

10.50am: The West Indies need three more wickets to wrap up New Zealand's innings. The second new ball is still fresh and they will be looking to bat before the end of today's first session.

10.30am:  Perfect conditions here at Seddon Park. Hot and warm conditions in Hamilton with temperatures expected to reach up to 25 degrees.

PRE-MATCH:

The visitors made good use of the new ball, securing four wickets in the final session yesterday and dismissing New Zealand's danger man Colin de Grandhomme.

De Grandhomme and Jeet Raval were solid for the Black Caps, each scoring half-centuries, but Raval fell 16 runs short of a Test century, finishing his innings top-scoring for New Zealand with 84 runs.

West Indies bowler Shannon Gabriel was strong for the visitors and took 3-79 on the first day of the second Test.

The Black Caps lead the two-match series 1-0 following their innings and 67-run victory at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
