DRINKS BREAK!

8.22pm: NZ 140/2 - 30 overs - Guptill 73, Taylor 1

WICKET! Mahmudullah bowls to Williamson and the visitors shout and appeal for lbw. The onfield umpire keeps his arm down and the Bangladesh team go for a review immediately.

The delivery was short and Williamson went back and opened up to hit it on the leg side but the ball doesn't bounce as much as he anticipated. The ball hits the front pad right in front. Ball-tracking suggests it would have hit the leg stump. The NZ skipper is gone for just 11 runs.

7.56pm: NZ 106/1 - 23.5 overs - Guptill 50, Williamson 1

FIFTY! Martin Guptill picks up an easy single and he brings up fifty runs off 57 balls.

7.46pm: NZ 100/0 - 21 overs - Guptill 47, Nicholls 51

FIFTY! Henry Nicholls brings up fifty for the match, as he and Guptill are happy to take the time building their partnership. New Zealand are very much in control of this one - Bangladesh really need some wickets now if they are to get back into this match.

7.36pm: NZ 81/0 - 18 overs - Guptill 44, Nicholls 35

SIX!  Sabbir Rahman bowls to Guptill and his delivery is too shor. Guptill rocks back and pull it for six over the midwicket boundary.

7.32pm: NZ 72/0 - 17 overs - Guptill 37, Nicholls 33

New Zealand need just 161 runs with 198 ball left in the match.

6.54pm: NZ 36/0 - 8.3 overs - Guptill 20, Nicholls 15

SIX!  Mashrafe Mortaza bowls to Guptill, it's an offcutter delivery at a length on off. Guptill hits through the line and hits it straight over the bowler's head.

6.49pm: NZ 26/0 - 7.2 overs - Guptill 10, Nicholls 14

FOUR! Mustafizur bowls to Henry Nicholls, it is a full delivery by Mustafizur and it angles in towards leg stump. Nicholls times his shot to perfection as he punches it past his teammate Martin Guptill.

6.33pm: NZ 16/0 - 3.5 overs - Guptill 7, Nicholls 8

FOUR! Mohammad Saifuddin bowls to Martin Guptill, the delivery is a length ball and slanted in at leg stump. Guptill hits it backward square leg boundary for four.

6.15pm: NZ 0/0 - Guptill 0, Nicholls 0

And we are underway as New Zealand need 233 runs to win the first ODI in Napier.

5.45pm: Bangladesh all out for 232

Bangladesh's innings comes to an end as Trent Boult dismisses Mustafizur Rahman with a perfect yorker. Rahman mistimes his shot and Boult's delivery goes onto hit the stumps.

5.37pm: Ban 229/9 - 47.1 overs - Mithun 62, Mortaza 8

WICKET! Lockie Ferguson bowls to Mithun and he's bowled him! An excellent knock from Mithun who falls one run short from equaling his highest run total of 63 in ODIs. That delivery from Ferguson was 150km/h, Mithun was too slow to react with the ball going onto crash into the stumps.

5.24pm: Ban 215/8 - 44.5 overs - Mithun 59, Saifuddin 41

OUT! Mitchell Santner bowls to Mohammad Saifuddin and he sweeps it hard but the ball goes straight to Martin Guptill at midwicket.

4.46pm: Ban 167/7 - 36 overs - Mithun 44, Saifuddin 14

Mithun is putting up a fight, he is just six runs short of bringing up his half century. Jimmy Neesham comes back into New Zealand's bowling attack.

3.22pm: Ban 71/5 - 17.2 overs - Mithun 14, Mahmudullah 13

OUT! Lockie Ferguson bowls to Mahmudullah and he edges it to Ross Taylor in the slips. Taylor bobbles it before regathering the ball and making the catch. Bangladesh are in all sorts of trouble right now.

3.11pm: Ban 59/4 - 15 overs - Mithun 9, Mahmudullah 8

Bangladesh's Mithun and Mahmudullah are building a slow but steady partnership after an early collapse.

2.53pm: Ban 51/4 - 11 overs - Mithun 5, Mahmudullah 4

A good over from Matt Henry with Bangladesh only scoring one run from the over.

2.41pm: Ban 42/4 - 8.2 overs - Mithun 0, Mahmudullah 0

OUT! Matt Henry bowls to Soumya and he hits it skyward, Henry gets under it and makes a safe catch. Soumya is gone for 30-runs.

WICKET! Trent Boult bowls to Mushfiqur and he's choped it onto the stumps.

2.33pm: Ban 41/2 - 7 overs - Soumya 29, Mushfiqur 5

An expensive over by Matt Henry as Bangladesh score 12 runs from his over.

2.20pm: Ban 19/2 after 4.3 overs

And now it's Henry's turn to strike, clipping the top of Linton Das' off stump. Terrible start for Bangladesh.

2.13pm: Ban 9/1 after two overs

Trent Boult's first ball is a cracker. Length and movement sees the ball catch Tamim's edge, and he's caught by Latham behind the stumps.

2.05pm: Ban 5/0 after one over

Comfortable first over for the visitors, five runs off Henry's first over

PREVIEW

Today's clash in Napier is the start of a very important series for the Black Caps on multiple fronts.

For starters, they'll be wanting to bounce back after getting flogged 4-1 in their best-of-five series with India earlier this month.

But more importantly, it's the last batch of 50-over matches the Kiwi side will get before heading to the World Cup later this year.

Coach Gary Stead has tweaked his side for the series as a result, with Colin Munro dropped from the squad for the first two matches.

Martin Guptill returns to the fold after overcoming a back injury.

While selectors insist Munro is still part of the equation, Gavin Larsen says he's excited to see Guptill and Henry Nicholls team up at the top of the order.

"We're delighted to have Martin back on the park for this series; he's a world-class player and an integral part of our one-day side," Larsen said.

"He and Henry did a good job opening up in Hamilton against India and they're a combination we want to see some more of in this series."

Bangladesh enter today looking to start 2019 on a high after their 2018 ended in rough ODI and T20 series defeats to the West Indies in the Caribbean.

But it'll be tough with the experience of Shakib Al Hasan missing after the all-rounder fractured a finger while batting in the BPL earlier this month.
