Former Black Caps batsman Jesse Ryder has had an explosive return to form with the bat in the Plunket Shield, smashing an unbeaten century for Central Districts against Auckland in Nelson.

Playing his first game of First Class cricket since March, Ryder was in fine touch, hammering a whopping 165 not out from 227 balls, with 25 boundaries.

He was aided by another discarded Black Cap, with Doug Bracewell falling short of a century of his own, out for 97 as the pair added 152 runs together.

Central Districts ended day one on 395/6, with Ryder undoubtedly looking to add to his already impressive score when day two begins tomorrow.
