Black Caps opener Tom Latham is crediting captain Kane Williamson for his return to form, as the two shared a 162-run partnership against Sri Lanka in Wellington yesterday.

Latham, 26, returned to form in style on day two against Sri Lanka, unbeaten at the end of day two with 121 runs to his name, helping the Black Caps to a 29-run lead heading into day three.

Speaking after the day's play at the Basin Reserve though, Latham was quick to deflect praise to captain Williamson, who himself stroked an effortless half-century, dismissed for 91 from 93 balls.

"He's pretty good, isn't he?" Latham began.

"He came out and hit the ball fantastically well. It made my job a lot easier just to do my thing.

"He's a world class player, and hitting the ball unbelievably at the moment in all conditions. I'm sure it will be another good summer for him."

Latham will resume his innings alongside Ross Taylor when play begins later this morning, with the pair having already added 90 for the third wicket.
