'He makes the team win' - Virat Kohli gushes over Black Caps opposite Kane Williamson

January 22, 2019

The two rival skippers will have a big say in the five-match series starting tomorrow.

Indian captain Virat Kohli made clear his admiration for Black Caps opposite Kane Williamson, with both players expected to play a key role in the five match ODI series beginning tomorrow in Napier.

Arguably the best batsman on the planet, Kohli arrives in New Zealand having led India to Test and ODI series wins in Australia this past month, and will be targeting another as India bid to find their form heading into this year's Cricket World Cup in England.

Speaking to media today in Napier, though, Kohli highlighted Williamson, who could prove himself a major thorn in India's side.

"He's easily one of the best players in the world," Kohli began.

"So easy on the eye, great to watch. I really enjoy watching his batting, personally.

"When he's on song, he's the most attractive to watch... He more or less makes the team win when he scores runs."

Kohli didn't just stop at Williamson, though - also noting several others among New Zealand's batting order.

"At the same time, Roscoe [Ross Taylor] and all the other guys as well.

"You can't take anyone for granted, or anyone lightly. But their batting usually revolves around Kane and Ross - in ODIs especially - and the other guys bat around them.

"We're aware of that, and we're working on our plans."

The first ODI between New Zealand and India begins tomorrow at Napier's McLean Park.
