As it happened: Trent Boult's stunning ODI hat-trick guides Black Caps to first tour win over Pakistan

November 8, 2018

Relive 1 NEWS NOW's live updates of this morning's first ODI between the Black Caps and Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.

7:47am: NZ win by 47 runs

Ferguson picks up two wickets on the first two balls of the 48th over and that's it.

Ferguson will be gutted he doesn't have a chance to become the 4th Kiwi to get an ODI hat-trick hours after Boult did it but a win is a win and it's an important one for the Kiwi camp. Mentions also need to go to Taylor and Latham for anchoring the Kiwi innings after a rough start but the talk of the game will be that hat trick.

That's all for the live updates. Have a great day.

7:44am: PAK 219/8, 47.0 overs - Hasan 16*, Shaheen 0

WICKET! Superb diving catch from de Grandhomme and Imad's gone! That should do it. Imad got his fifty on the last ball but Southee responds to get him chasing. Looks to flick this one out the back for a cheeky four but hasn't done enough with it and de Grandhomme soars to his right to take the grab at backward point. That should do it.

7:39am: PAK 214/7, 46.0 overs - Imad 46*, Hasan 14

Boult bowling. He restricts them to ones and twos with a couple of yorkers. Strong finish from him for a historic day with the ball.

7:34am: PAK 206/7, 45.0 overs - Imad 44*, Hasan 9

Five overs to go. Getting down to the crunch now. Boult has one over, so does Ferguson and Sodhi. Southee has two. Imad will need to go big here if Pakistan stand any chance.

7:18am: PAK 188/7, 41.0 overs - Imad 39*, Hasan 0

WICKET! de Grandhomme gets Sarfraz! Off stump yorker that gets Sarfraz jabbing his bat at it to look for four but instead he deflects it into his stumps! Massive moment for both teams. Sarfraz slams his bat into the ground. He knows that shot may have cost him a heroic chase.

7:13am: PAK 181/6, 40.0 overs - Sarfraz 59, Imad 37*

Final 10 overs. Pakistan's run rate has crept up to 4.52 but it's still well short of the 8.60 required. Boult has three overs left, Southee, Ferguson and de Grandhomme two, and Sodhi one. How does Williamson play this?

7:07am: PAK 172/6, 39.0 overs - Sarfraz 55*, Imad 34

FIFTY! That's a half century for Sarfraz. Sweeps Sodhi's delivery through square leg for four to bring up the milestone. Still a big chase on his hands though. Can he go up another gear or will the Black Caps hold on?

6:52am: PAK 147/6, 35.0 overs - Sarfraz 35, Imad 28*

BIG over for Pakistan as Imad whallops Sodhi for back-to-back sixes. The first was off a no-ball so he followed it up with a free hit and slogged that one too. Could that be the spark Pakistan needed?

6:47am: PAK 131/6, 34.0 overs - Sarfraz 34, Imad 15*

Pakistan slowly running out of time here as the required run rate creeps higher and higher. It currently sits at 8.50 while they are actually batting at 3.85. Southee and Sodhi currently attacking for the Black Caps.

6:20am: PAK 101/6, 27.0 overs - Sarfraz 14, Imad 5*

Pakistan bring up 100 but they're still a fair way off getting back in this match. Not impossible But Sarfraz needs to have a big innings. Boult back in the attack for de Grandhomme.

6:03am: PAK 85/6, 23.0 overs - Sarfraz 5, Imad 0*

WICKET! Horrid call from the umpire but the Black Caps get one! Ish Sodhi comes into the bowling attack and with his first ball of the match nabs Shadab Khan. But hang on. Replays show the ball has missed the bat by a mile! The noise came from Shadab's bat hitting the ground, not an edge. Big break for NZ there.

5:53am: PAK 76/5, 20.0 overs - Shadab 2, Sarfraz 3*

Good morning all! Just to bring you up to speed for those who slept through the start of this match. NZ won the toss and elected to bat but ran into early trouble when Worker, Munro, and Williamson failed to get above 30. But the Kiwis rallied behind Taylor's top score of 80 and Latham joining him on 68. NZ posted 266/9 from 50 overs in the end.

Pakistan looked all set for a chase of 267 but a superb hat trick from Trent Boult has severely damaged them as we move into the final 30 overs of their innings.

Pakistan: Sarfraz Ahmed (capt), Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Junaid Khan.
