'As good as it gets' - Black Caps coach raves over Boult, Southee heroics against England

March 27, 2018

The pair combined to rout England for 58 on the opening day of the pink ball Test.

Black Caps coach Mike Hesson was at a loss for words as he tried to heap praise on his new ball pair of Tim Southee and Trent Boult following the duo's demolition job against England in Auckland.

On the first session of the pink ball Test at Eden Park, Boult and Southee combined in a fierce display of swing bowling, skittling the tourists for just 58 runs, helping set up the Black Caps' eventual innings and 49 run victory last night.

At a media conference this morning, Hesson spoke of his delight at the pair's performance.

"That's as good as it gets really," he said.

"It was pretty impressive, and pretty surreal to be fair."

"Maybe in two sessions, maybe in a day we would have been happy, but to do it before lunch was amazing."

Boult claimed six wickets in the first innings and nine in the match, while Southee took four English scalps first up and one further second time around.
