Half centuries to David Warner and Johnny Bairstow have seen Sunrisers Hyderabad come away with a convincing nine-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League this morning.
Winning the toss and putting Kolkata in to bat first, the Sunrisers’ bowlers came to the party – restricting the Knight Riders to 159/8 from their 20 overs.
Australian batsman Chris Lynn was the only real standout with 51 runs, while 21-year old Indian seamer Khaleel Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for the Sunrisers – taking 3/33 from his four overs.
Batting on what seemed like a docile pitch after the first innings, the Sunrisers’ opening pair of Warner and Bairstow both put on a masterclass in T20 batting, adding 131 for the first wicket in just 12.2 overs.
Warner reached his half century from 28 balls, hitting two boundaries and four sixes, with Bairstow reaching his milestone at the same pace - his innings containing six fours and two sixes.
When Warner was out in the 13th over, cleaned bowled by Prithvi Raj for 67, Bairstow upped the ante in style, joined at the crease by captain Kane Williamson.
The pair finished the game off in style, Bairstow unbeaten with 80 from 43 balls, while Williamson remained not out with eight from nine balls.
The win sees the Sunrisers move into the IPL’s top four, sitting two points behind the Delhi Capitals with a game in hand.
The Knight Riders meanwhile sit in sixth, in danger of being overtaken by the Rajasthan Royals.
