Watch: Tapegate! Cheeky South African fan asks Aussie star to sign sandpaper as crowd hammers cheating Aussie side

March 26, 2018

A young South African cricket fan didn't miss his chance to get stuck into the Australian team after the ongoing ball tampering scandal, handing spinner Nathan Lyon a sheet of sand paper to autograph.

On day three of the third Test match in Cape Town, Australian opening batsman Cameron Bancroft was caught on camera trying to alter the condition of the ball using a piece of yellow tape, before it was revealed that the instruction came down from captain, Steve Smith.

In a cheeky bit of banter, the young fan made his way down to the boundary overnight on day five of the Test, asking Lyon to sign a sheet of sand paper, in reference to the piece of tape that Bancroft used to try and alter the condition of the ball.

Things would get worse than that for Australia, who went on to lose the Test by a whopping 322-runs, surrendering a 2-1 series lead to the hosts.
