After their historic Test series win against Pakistan, the Black Caps are chasing more accolades with a chance to climb to second in the world Test rankings if they sweep Sri Lanka in New Zealand.

The Black Caps arrived back in New Zealand yesterday after their 2-1 series win over Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates but will reassemble on Wednesday in Wellington as they prepare for the first of their two Tests against Sri Lanka starting this Saturday.

Should the Black Caps pick up wins at the Basin Reserve and Christchurch's Hagley Oval, the International Cricket Council confirmed in a statement they would leapfrog South Africa and England to move from fourth to second in the world Test rankings behind India.

The result is a fair chance with the TAB pricing the Kiwi side at $1.70 currently to win both.

Coach Gary Stead said the team is already inspired heading into the series without the thought of world rankings.

"I don't think there will be any need for motivation. It's the start of our home summer and we want to do well at home and do well for our fans," he said.

"We have a very good test record at home that we'll want to maintain and grow."
