Black Caps calm and ready for West Indies star Chris Gayle in ODI series opener

December 18, 2017

The Windies are eager to turn things around on their NZ tour after their 2-0 Test series loss.

The Black Caps are taking the arrival of Jamaican master blaster Chris Gayle in their stride ahead of the upcoming one day series with the West Indies, starting this week in Whangarei.

The team spent yesterday working with local kids, getting a feel for the Cobham Oval pitch which they'll take to on Wednesday when they play their first of three one-dayers.

The Black Caps back their bowling unit to shut down Gayle, who is coming off a red-hot performance in the Bangladesh Premier League T20 Final where he scored a record-breaking 18 sixes in his innings.

"Obviously we know what a quality player he is," wicketkeeper Tom Latham said.

"We know how much of a threat he can be when he gets going so hopefully we can bowl well to him early on."

The white ball format is a chance for the Windies to fire back after their Test series thrashing.
