The Australian cricket team is yet to reach the World Cup final, but controversial TV host Karl Stefanovic has already started the trans-Tasman banter, calling Kiwi cricket fans the "dole bludger army".
He has also stoked up tensions with Indian fans, asking a group of them who was "manning 7-Elevens today".
The Today Show host was interviewing a group of India supporters ahead of today's semi-final against Australia in Sydney when he made the comment.
"I was just gonna ask ... Who's going to be manning 7-Elevens today?" he asked.
One of the fans was quick off the mark in reply, saying "I'm not sure about who's going to be manning 7-Elevens but you might have to look at Centrelink (social welfare department) as well I think Karl".
Stefanovic made the comments about New Zealand fans earlier in the show, prompting a flood of comments on the Today Show's Facebook page, many of whom pointed to New Zealanders lack of access to social welfare and benefits in Australia.
"Karl, you are very misinformed," said Hana Lillian Hapeta. "Us kiwis don't come here for dole. We are purely here tax purposes, we have no rights in our sister country, who we fought along side in the war."
"My partner works his ass off here paying huge taxes every year as well as thousands of other kiwis do!!" added Naomi Te Puea Moran.
