'Time to get that gold, baby!' - Samoan boxer gunning for Commonwealth Games glory

Ato Plodzicki-Faoagali will be out to break weightlifting's dominance of the Samoan Gold Coast medal haul when he fights for gold in the men's 81kg final today.

Samoan weightlifters have claimed two gold medals and two silvers at the Commonwealth Games, a fine haul after they won none at Glasgow four years ago.

Plodzicki-Faoagali will add to that tally when he fights Sammy Lee of Wales tonight, after beating Canada's Harley O'Reilly yesterday.

"I want to thank all my family and supporters - it's time to get that gold, baby."

The 19-year-old was previously in the Australian system, but after missing their team for the games, decided to fight for his father.

"I am fighting for Samoa. I was with Australia two years ago and there was a bit of politics. But I now want to represent my father - I'm named after him."
