Sevens star Ruby Tui remains in hospital with mumps, rest of team given all-clear

Commonwealth Games' CEO Mark Peters has praised the NZ side with how they have dealt with the ordeal in the Sunshine Coast.

Women's sevens star Ruby Tui remains in hospital with the mumps, but the good news is no further members of the squad have gone down with the illness.

New Zealand Commonwealth Games Chef de Mission Rob Waddell said Tui remained in a stable condition, after coming down with the virus while in camp on the Sunshine Coast.

The team was preparing for the first tilt at women's sevens gold on the Gold Coast next week.

"We've had some good news that there's been no other cases of the mumps in the team, and our doctors have been up there working with the girls and staff to ensure their wellbeing and assessing what is ongoing.

"There is an athlete that's been ill (Tui) and has been transferred to hospital on the Sunshine Coast, that's something we monitor closely, but we understand she is in a stable condition."

Waddell said a sports psychologist had been working with the team, to ensure they were in the right frame of mind for their tournament.

The plan was for the team to join the wider NZ camp on Sunday.

Waddell couldn't say if Tui would be fit to play, or if she'd return to NZ.
