'Michaela's feisty' - Kiwi boxer Alexis Pritchard guaranteed bronze, looking forward to bout with 'wrestling' rival

Kiwi boxer Alexis Pritchard is preparing herself for a titanic battle with a Northern Irish rival who just last month resorted to interesting tactics in a warm-up bout.

Pritchard, 34, is guaranteed at least a bronze medal following her comfortable 5-0 points decision over Sri Lanka's Keshani Hansika on the Gold Coast today.

She will now face Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh for a place in the women's 57kg gold medal fight.

The pair fought in a warm-up bout in Canberra recently, and Pritchard was in no doubt about the scale of her challenge.

"Michaela's feisty, she's passionate, and she loves her boxing, she's going to be doing her utmost to get into the finals, it's going to be an interesting fight," she told 1 NEWS' Stephen Stuart.

"We had a bit of an interesting wrestling match going on in the boxing ring, but we both walked out fine."

Guaranteed at least third place, Pritchard said she was determined to make it into the gold medal match.

"I'm loving the fact I'm into the semis and guaranteed a bronze medal, but I'm going to fight my heart out in there and try change that colour."

Walsh was shorter, so would look to get inside Pritchard's range, by coming forward and throwing shots.

"It's going to be a busy little fight."

David Nyika and Tasmyn Benny were also guaranteed at least a bronze medal.
