Day 4 afternoon recap: Kiwi Jo Edwards wins hard-fought women's lawn bowls semi to advance to gold medal match

NZ's medal haul: 3 gold; 5 silver; 5 bronze 

5:20pm: Kiwi weightlifter Andrea Hams pays tribute to heartbroken Richie Patterson

Richie Patterson put aside his own disappointment to help her to a creditable 6th in today's 69kg event at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

5:05pm: Men's artistic gymnastics final

Cyprus' Marios Georgiou takes out the gold medal, with Canada's Scott Morgan grabbing silver and Daniel Purvis of Scotland taking home the bronze.

New Zealand's Ethan Dick finishes in a respectable fifth just outside the medals.

4:55pm: Men's artistic gymnastics

Some strong routines sees NZ's Ethan Dick drop out of medal contention after a great floor routine of his own.

Dick is now in fifth place with Cyprus' Marios Georgiou in the gold medal position.

4:45pm: Men's artistic gymnastics sees Ethan Dick going for gold

Straight over to the gymnastics where Kiwi Ethan Dick has just completed his floor routine, posting a score of 13.500 that sees him in third place currently.

4:40pm: Women's lawn bowls, Kiwi Jo Edwards in gold medal match at 7:30pm

Edwards will be taking on Laura Daniels from Wales later tonight as they go head to head for gold.

4:35pm: Women's lawn bowls semi-final final score, 21-17 to Jo Edwards after 24 ends.

She's done it! What an effort from NZ's Jo Edwards who advances to the gold medal match after a hard fought win over South African Colleen Piketh.

4:30pm: Women's lawn bowls semi-final, 19-17 to Jo Edwards at 23rd end

Two more shots to the Kiwi sees her inch closer to victory and a guaranteed medal!

4:25pm: What a match! Women's lawn bowls semi-final, 18-17 to Jo Edwards

The Kiwi comes back at the crucial moment, with a great end of bowls that sees her retake the lead over Piketh.

4:18pm: Women's lawn bowls semi-final, 17-15 to Piketh over Kiwi Jo Edwards

Another good end for the South African sees Edwards in a spot of bother.

4:15pm: Women's lawn bowls semi-final, 16-15 to Piketh at 20th end

Now the South African edges ahead of the Kiwi by one. Still anyones game.

4:05pm: All square! Women's lawn bowls semi-final, 15-15 between Edwards and Piketh

Nail-biting stuff on the Gold Coast for bowls enthusiasts this afternoon.

4:00pm: Women's lawn bowls semi-final, 15-13 to Jo Edwards at 18th end

A single shot picked up by the Kiwi sees her push out the lead to two at the 18th end.

One big end could be the deciding factor in this one...

3:54pm: Women's lawn bowls semi-final, 14-13 to Jo Edwards at 17th end

Another comeback for the south African who once again reduces the Kiwi's lead to one point.

First to 21 wins in what will be a tense finish.

3:50pm: Women's lawn bowls semi-final, 14-10 to Jo Edwards at 16th end

A great end from Edwards sees her pull away to a four point lead late into the match which could still go either way.

3:45pm: Women's lawn bowls semi-final, 11-10 to Jo Edwards as opponent makes come back

South Africa's Colleen Piketh has stormed back against Kiwi Jo Edwards to be only one point behind at the 15th end.

Hang in there Jo!

3:42pm: Fiji claim their first Commonwealth Games medal in dramatic fashion at the weightlifting

Fiji's Apolonia Vaivai hit the deck after going for glory with a massive attempt at 122kg but still managed to claim a bronze medal.

3:35pm: Women's skeet shooting

New Zealand's Chloe Tipple puts up a brave fight, but finishes just outside the qualifiers in seventh place, a heartbreaking one point away from qualifying.

3:30pm: Women's lawn bowls with NZ's Jo Edwards

Edward's now leads her South African opponent by 10-6 in the 12th end.

3:25pm: Women's skeet shooting

Kiwi Chloe Tipple is currently in eighth position in the qualification round. The top six progress to the final so she is on the cusp right now.

3.10pm: NZ's Jo Edwards chases a place in the women's singles final

A great start for Jo Edwards, she leads Colleen Piketh of South Africa 8-3, after eight ends.

2.57pm: Women Black Sticks v Canada in the hockey

It's finished 0-0, a slightly disappointing result for NZ who dominated, but no cigar.

Alana Barber receives her silver medal after her fantastic effort in the gruelling 20km walk, and that's sweet, she hugs her koala, and she is bubbling inside and it's spilling out. She's stoked.

1.33pm: Kiwi weightlifter Andrea Hams goes big - then goes out in the Women's u69kg weightlifting

Terrific video of Andrea Hams really coming through in the clutch on a massive 95kg snatch lift to keep her alive, today. She later finished on a combined score of 204 after the clean and jerk, good enough for fourth - at the moment.

1.27pm: Our Black Sticks women have just kicked off against Canada, looking to go three from three at this Comm Games. Yesterday, they destroyed Malaysia 12-0.

1.20pm: A super moment for Samoa, their first medal

This Samoan teen weightlifter, 18, is the pride of the Pacific nation today, after an outstanding lift. Watch it here.

1.10pm: Sophie Pascoe talks about what happened last night

She's not happy with her race last night, is Sophie Pascoe, despite gold in the pool, and being utterly exhausted, saying "the body obviously wasn't responding afterwards".

12.48pm: Silver!! Barber has taken out second place. It was a strong, stable performance from Barber, who made the most of Australian Tennant's disqualification only kilometres from the line.

12.44pm: Kiwi Alana Barber moved up to second after Aussie Tennant was disqualified. 1km to go. 

12.40pm: Kiwi Bobbi Gichard is about to compete in race three of the 200m back stroke. 

12.30pm We've only got 4km to go of the 20km women's race walk. Kiwi Alana Barber is beginning to get closer to second place Aussie C Tallent, and creating a bigger gap between the Welsh fourth place walker. 

12.22pm: Australian Montag is still in the lead, Barber still sits at third place after 15km. 

12.00pm: Race Walk We're nearing the half way point. Kiwi Alana Barber in third place is creating more distance between her and fourth place holder Aussie race walker Smith. However The gap between the New Zealanders third place and the second and first place holders is also getting bigger. 

11.53am: We're not even half way through the race walk, but Kiwi Alana Barber has boosted up to third, as she sits in the middle of a pack of three Australian race walkers. 

Aussies Montag and Tallent are holding a strong first and second position. Fellow Australian Smith is close behind Barber. It'll be a tight race. 

11.50am: And we're off. New Zealand is looking good in the Women's 20km race walk, as Alana Barber holds a fourth place currently. 

Dale Stevenson spoke to 1 NEWS about Walsh's effort at the World Athletics Champs in London.

Earlier:  Kiwi Quentin Rew came in fifth place for the men's race walk. 

Build up

After two gold medals last night, New Zealand will be looking to add even more to their collection on day four, with a number of events on display.

Headlining today's action, is none other than reigning shot put champion Tom Walsh, who will have his qualification at 6:25pm.

Elsewhere, there's lawn bowls where the women's fours, men's triples and mixed pairs this morning, before the medal matches later this evening.

In the shooting, Chloe Tipple will have a chance to impress, with medals up for grabs later on.

Andrea Hams and Bailey Rogers will be taking part in the weightlifting, while in the pool, no fewer than five Kiwis have their heats this afternoon.

Both Black Sticks men and women will be up later on, set to face South Africa and Canada respectively.

Paul Coll and Joelle King will have their squash semi-finals, with both heavy favourites to medal.

The Tall Ferns face India, and the Silver Ferns will take on Malawi later tonight.

There's more action from the track in the cycling, while our beach volleyball men and women will also be competing.
