Kiwi para-athlete star Holly Robinson beats major rival for first time ahead of bid for gold

Kiwi para-athlete Holly Robinson is refusing to get too far ahead of herself, despite finally getting one over her rival who has pipped her at the last two major championships.

At a warm up event for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Robinson got the better of Wales' Hollie Arnold, the first time she has beaten her.

Arnold knocked Robinson into second spot in the F46 javelin at both Rio 2016 and last year's world champs, and the 23-year-old from Christchurch couldn't help but take some confidence from the success.

"Last week in Brisbane was actually the first competition we've had outside the major championships, outside of a world champs or Paralympics where we've actually competed against each other," she said at a pre-throw press conference today.

"I guess we both would have had things we wanted to tick off in that competition, and I had my own goals. It is a good confidence booster, but anything can happen on they day.

"It puts me in a good place at the moment."

Robinson is the only para-athlete named in the New Zealand track and field team.
