Watch: Steven Adams back training after overcoming injury sustained in scary pre-season fall

October 6, 2017

Steven Adams is back training for Oklahoma City Thunder after overcoming a lower back and glute injury sustained in his team's first NBA preseason game against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.

The Rockets' star point guard James Harden fouled Adams, forcing the Kiwi to sit out the rest of the game as he headed to the locker rooms to have his injury addressed.

While the injury did not look too serious, it raised alarm bells for the Thunder with their depth at centre significantly shorter this season after trading away back-up player and sixth man Enes Kanter to the New York Knicks to acquire 10-time all star Carmelo Anthony.

But the Kiwi was back training at this morning's training with coach Billy Donovan saying he had a "full go".

Donovan did not comment on whether Adams would play in the team's next pre-season game against the New Orleans Pelicans tomorrow at 1pm NZT.

Adams has not had injury issues so far in his steady rise to fame in the NBA - the Rotorua-born basketballer has played in at least 80 games three times in the past four seasons and showed his grit in the notorious Western Conference Finals in 2015 after he was kicked in the groin twice by Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.

The Thunder start their season against the Knicks on October 20.
