Watch: 'The old 1981' – Steven Adams explains disgraceful underarm incident to OKC teammates

October 9, 2017

Kiwi NBA star Steven Adams has sparked up some Trans-Tasman trash talk ahead of the Oklahoma City Thunder's preseason friendly against the NBL’s Melbourne United today.

Adams is using Trevor Chappell's infamous underarm incident against the Black Caps as fuel to motivate his team.

"I was trying to explain to the boys – trying to rally up the troops," Adams said.

"So I told them the history – the old 1981."

The Kiwi centre had interviewers in stitches yet again after Russell Westbrook’s game-winning left-handed dunk on the Rockets.

It comes a day after Thunder icon Russell Westbrook declared OKC was "Team NZ".

When asked by media yesterday what he expects from Melbourne in tonight’s game, Westbrook responded with a very honest and hilarious answer.

"I ain't expecting s**t," said Westbrook.

"I'm rolling with Stevo (Adams).

"I'm New Zealand, team New Zealand over here, just so you know."

The game is the second of three friendlies being contested between NBA and NBL teams.
