Tom Abercrombie puts Tall Blacks one win away from Basketball World Cup

The Tall Blacks are one win from next year's Basketball World Cup in China, moving a step closer to qualification with a 95-69 victory over Jordan in Christchurch last night.

Hitting the court in Christchurch for the first time in 14 years, the Tall Blacks were led well by Tom Abercrombie, who finished with 18 points, with contributions from Jordan Ngatai (17), Reuben Te Rangi (11) and debutant Tom Vodanovich (11).

Abercrombie in particular looked in good touch despite his woes with the Breakers so far this season, scoring 13 of his 18 points in the third quarter alone.

For Jordan, American-born Justin Dentmon was ruled out before tip-off, who was ruled ineligible to represent another nation.

The win means New Zealand can book their tickets to next year's World Cup, provided they can defeat Syria in Wellington on Sunday.

Otherwise, the Tall Blacks will have two more qualifiers to try and seal qualification, coming in February next year away to Lebanon and Jordan.
