Watch: 'Still above ground so can't complain, mate!' Cheeky Steven Adams has reporters in giggles after explaining cupping treatment, refusing to disclose injury worry

April 20, 2018

Kiwi NBA star Steven Adams is playing down rumours he is carrying an injury in the Oklahoma City Thunder's playoff series against the Utah Jazz.

Adams exited yesterday's 102-95 loss early after fouling out with just under three minutes left but the centre spent time last night getting a cupping massage on his right shoulder.

When asked if the treatment was for an injury, Adams palmed off the question with some classic Kiwi panache.

"I'm still above ground so can't complain, mate," he told reporters.

When reporters tried to get Adams to open up a bit more on the session, they inadvertently helped by giving him a fail-safe answer.

"It was muscle relaxation.

"Mate, no, I'm not discussing any of that information," he said with a cheeky grin.

Injured or not, Adams will have time to rest before game three of the best-of-seven series against the Jazz, with the next match not until Sunday NZT in Utah.

The series is currently tied 1-1.
