NBA star Steven Adams says he will play for the Tall Blacks "when the time is right".

The 25-year-old is in Auckland hosting the first of three camps for young basketball players around New Zealand.

The Oklahoma City Thunder centre has urged fans to continue to support the national side, but for now his focus is helping out the younger generation.

"If you're a Tall Blacks fan, then support the Tall Blacks," said Adams.

"Don't make it about me.

"I'm not playing for them (Tall Blacks) but if you're a fan - I'm a fan of the Tall Blacks - then watch them and support them.

"It's still a country thing. These players are still going out there and playing for the country, that's great.

"They deserve a lot more attention than I'm getting."

Adams said at today's press conference in Auckland that he still stays in regular contact with the Tall Blacks coach Paul Henare despite making himself unavailable for the national side.
