The Skycity Breakers have confirmed that star point guard Cedric Jackson and Tai Wesley are departing the club for the 2016/2017 season.
Cedric Jackson and Tai Wesley will not be returning to the Breakers for the 2016/2017 season.
Jackson has been the focus of multiple NBL clubs this offseason with contract offers to the American player more lucrative deals than what the Breakers tabled, while Guam international Wesley declined a multi-year deal with the New Zealand franchise to test free agency market.
Breakers coach Paul Henare says the departures are clear loses for the team, but not something they won't adapt to.
"I don't need to go into detail as to what Cedric brought to the club, his record speaks for itself and I think the club has played a huge part in shaping his career too," he said.
"I coached Tai at both the Southland Sharks and the Breakers. He has been a tower of strength for us and it will be sad to see him not in a Breakers uniform but we must celebrate the two years and the success we have enjoyed in that time."
The team will continue to sign players for the upcoming season, with two American imports and two non-restricted spots remaining.
