The 17-year-old got the call-up for the Tall Blacks for the upcoming World Cup qualifying games.

Auckland's Rosmini College student Kruz Perrott-Hunt has become the latest Kiwi to snap up a university basketball scholarship in the United States.

It has been a big week for the 17-year-old, signing his Dakota University contract and getting the call up to the Tall Blacks squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifying games.

"It's a great opportunity for me to be a sponge and to learn from the older guys," said Perrott-Hunt.

"But I guess this time round I'll try get in the mix and compete hopefully on the court, if not I'll be on the bench waving my towel. I'll be the best supporter I can be."

He credited his basketball mad family for the position he is in today.

"Pretty much my sister made a path for me to go over there and I'm just following that at the moment. So just learning from her and learning from what she does."

His older sister Georgia plays basketball in the US for Tiffin University.
