The latest Youth Offending rates from Statistics New Zealand show Youth Offending is on the rise, after years of steady decline.
A total of 1989 children and young people were charged in the Courts in 2016, which is up from 1878 young offenders in 2015.
Youth crime peaked in 2007 when there were 5067 young offenders. Youth crime rates had been going down since then.
The increase in youth crime last year, has broken the positive trend.
