A young Muslim girl has given Jacinda Ardern a card during an open day at New Zealand’s biggest mosque today, saying she made it because the Prime Minister “talks beautifully”.
Saffiye Basar gave Ms Ardern a hug and the handmade card as the Prime Minister left the open day at Masjid e Umar Mosque in Mt Roskill, Auckland.
The young girl telling 1 News the card had a "pretty picture with handprints."
Saffiye’s father, Taner, added that his family and community wanted to thank the Prime Minister.
"We love her humility, we love her great leadership and we’re showing kindness and respect to the rest of the world," Mr Basar told 1 NEWS.
“That’s why we’re proud of her, I think that’s the message we wanted to share with her and thank her.”
Mr Basar said today had again helped bring all New Zealanders together.
“It’s great for a sense of understanding that we are all one nation, if someone gets hurt, someone is there for him and her, this is what New Zealand is showing, standing up for everyone.”
