Buyer beware: If you're shopping in Wellington and trying to get into one of your favourite stores, Area 51, you might find yourself battling a horde of teenagers.
The first and only shipment to New Zealand of Kanye West's Yeezy label brand new sneakers hits shelves tomorrow at 10am, and the announcement has sent social media and West's young fans into overdrive.
The first arrivals who heard about the shoes through the internet grapevine earlier this week.
Area 51 sales rep Melissa McCracken said she arrived on Wednesday morning to work to find a queue had formed outside the store.
"This is the earliest they've ever lined up - normally it's just overnight. At the moment it's Thursday, there's 10, 15 people here."
Store manager Roimata Tunui said with only about 90 pairs in the country available, the store has already had to turn people away.
"If their size is still available, they can wait in line - if not we let them know.
"Everyone in the line is guaranteed a pair in their size."
Aaron John, a Footlocker sales rep, said there were only four stores in New Zealand selling the shoes: Area 51, Footlocker Queen Street, Loaded, and Adidas.
Some in the line had travelled from Auckland, having missed out on the raffle for the shoes in their home city.
Wellington high school student Ru Evans said the shoes had created a buzz that made them special.
"It's different from your everyday Vans and Converse."
His parents were sending supplies while he waited with his girlfriend in line.
"We've camped out here for three days... I'd be disappointed if we missed out."
