The 95-year-old took four buses to attend an anti-racism rally in Central Auckland days after the Christchurch mosque attacks.

And now the veteran has displayed his compassion and kindness again by attending the Auckland dawn service today to honour fallen soldiers.

Mr Sato joined the services when he was 18 and says he hopes the world will know that war is not necessary.

"Mankind should learn, it’s a slow process," he told TVNZ1's Seven Sharp.
