February 22, 2019

A woman has fought off a naked man who indecently assaulted her as she walked along a Hamilton street in the early hours of the morning, police said today in a statement.

The woman was assaulted while walking on Galloway Street, near Wellington Street, around 2am on Wednesday, police said.

She was initially walking on Clyde Street when she noticed a man wearing grey boxer shorts urinating in nearby bushes, she told authorities.

The woman said she continued walking down Galloway Street, heading south, when she noticed the man for a second time - now naked.

Upon reaching Wellington Street, she was grabbed by the man and indecently assaulted, police allege.

The woman kicked the man to fight him off, and she ran away, she said.

She has been offered support and police say they are taking the allegation very seriously.

Waikato Police are seeking witnesses to the assault.

The police are asking anyone who was in the area or has information to contact Detective Sergeant Andrew Saunders on 021 191 2554.
