Woman found dead in Waikato River had been playing with her dogs on riverbank

Police have released the name of the woman whose body was found in the Waikato River last night.

The woman was identified today as Beth Christina Winfield, 23, of Hamilton.

Police are treating the death as unexplained and have appealed for anyone who saw a black Subaru parked in a reserve area near Ann Street, Hamilton.

She was believed to have been throwing a ball and playing with her two dogs on the riverbank yesterday afternoon.

Loud music was also reported to have been coming from the vehicle during the afternoon.

Miss Winfield's body was found last night a short distance from the vehicle.
