A woman has died after being hit by a train in Wellington this afternoon.
Police say emergency services were called to a level crossing near the intersection of Hinau Street and McClellan Street, in Tawa, at around 12.55pm.
Police are making inquiries to establish the circumstances behind the incident.
Cordons remain in place.
