Woman and man injured in paragliding and skydiving accidents in Central Otago

Cardrona general manager Bridget Legnavsky says she's never seen so much snow in May.

A woman is being treated for serious injuries after a paragliding accident near Cardrona Alpine Resort. 

The crash occurred around four kilometres up the skifield road at Cardrona, between Queenstown and Wanaka. 

First responders were sent to the accident after a personal locator beacon was set-off at around 12.30pm. 

St John has confirmed the woman is suffering from serious injuries says she and has been flown by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile a man has been injured in a skydiving accident in Queenstown this afternoon. 

Police say they responded to a parachute accident near Drift Bay just before 3.30pm. 

The 29-year-old man has been taken to Lakes District Hospital in Frankton with moderate injuries. 

The crash happened on the NZONE premises, approximately 50 metres from the buildings at Frankton, near Queenstown.

The Civil Aviation Authority will be investigating.
