Members of public, including a doctor and nurse, administered CPR to help a woman immediately after a crash near Taupo.
Police said they were called to the scene about 11.22am.
One woman aged 47 who was riding a motorcycle was the victim of the fatal crash.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The accident happened on State Highway 41.

The road is still is closed at Tokaanu, near Turangi as the serious crash unit examine the crash scene.
No one else was injured.
