Witnesses sought to campervan being driven on wrong side of Te Anau Milford Sound Highway

In an attempt to avoid crashing into a campervan on the wrong side of the road, a driver had to swerve and crashed on Te Anau Milford Sound Highway in Otago.

Te Anau Police are seeking witnesses to the incident about 3pm on Friday, and would like to speak with the driver or occupants of the campervan or anyone that witnessed the crash or may have been in the area at the time.

Police say the car, a Subaru, was travelling south towards Te Anau, with the campervan travelling north toward Milford Sound. They say the campervan was believed to be on the incorrect side of the road when going around a bend.

The campervan was described as a large white camper van, possibly a KEA brand.
