Winston Peters slams Russia's support for Syria after alleged chemical weapons attack

Russia blocked a UN proposal to identify who was responsible for the chemical weapons attack in Syria.

Foreign Minister Winston Peters has slammed Russia's support of Syria following an alleged chemical weapons attack.

Earlier this month, Russia blocked a UN proposal to identify those responsible for the incident.

Mr Peters called the move an abuse of power.

"If you give those countries a veto of power, they've got to use it responsibly. They're not the only ones to use it irresponsibly, but in this case, they're denying us access to critical information for humanity," he told reporters in London.

Russia's veto this month marked the 12th time it has used its UN veto power over the Syrian Civil War.
