Winston Peters has weighed in on the "fake news" debate during an interview on TVNZ1's Q+A this morning.

The sometimes heated interview with Q+A's Corin Dann saw the NZ First leader asked for his views on fake news.

"Fake news is what I frequently see on the 6pm news."

Mr Peters says he intends to make sure 'fake news' doesn't prevail in this election campaign.

The NZ First leader also had some advice for Corin Dann on how to cover his election campaingn over the next nine weeks.

"Why don't you just report what I say rather than what you think I said, then you and I are going to get on just fine."

NZ First's annual convention is currently being held at the Vodafone Events Centre in South Auckland, with Mr Peters set to give a keynote address today. 


Mr Peters thinks the country has suffered ever since Muldoon's economic policies were put into place in 1984.
