Wellington's quake-damaged Reading carpark to be demolished

The demolition of Wellington's quake-damaged Reading Cinema carpark has been confirmed.

The Wellington City Council has informed surrounding property owners that efforts to stabilise the building have been unsuccessful and the carpark is no longer safe for anyone to enter.

Engineers are assessing whether controlled access can be granted to nearby evacuated properties so essential items can be retrieved before the demolition.

There is no timeline for the deconstruction, but the Wellington City Council said they are committed to getting the carpark down as safely and as quickly as possible.

It will suffer the same fate as the Molesworth St building which is expected to be demolished in two weeks. Source: Breakfast
