Pineapple on pizza may be controversial... but a burger with kiwifruit inside has taken the prestigious title of Wellington's best burger.
This year's Wellington on a Plate Burger Competition featured more burgers than ever before, with 123 entries in total, and five were chosen by the public to go head to head in the finals.
Mr Go's took out the top spot with their Kiwi China, China Kiwi burger, with Chinese style braised beef cheek, pickled kiwi fruit and chilli jam in a house-steamed milk bao bun.
The runner-up was Five and Dime's Impossible Burger, a vegetarian take on the classic cheeseburger.
Third place went to Beach Road Deli's Hangi Pants, with hangi lamb, stuffing, kumara and watercress in between two fried bread buns.
The competition has now wrapped up, but the team behind Mr Go's winning burger say it'll be put on the menu permanently.
Last year around 84,000 burgers were consumed during the two-week festival.
