Wellington wind is expected to get even more fierce tonight, prompting road closure

Remutaka Hill Road at State Highway 2 was closed for several hours this afternoon due to high winds but has since reopened.

Metservice said winds of up to 130km/h were expected in Wellington.

"The winds remain strong, so please take extra care, especially in high-sided vehicles or on motorcycles," the NZ Transport Agency's Wellington office continued to warn after the road reopened.
