Wellington Girls' College has been closed and students told to go home after fears about building safety following Monday's 7.8 earthquake.
Principal Julia Davidson confirmed that students were sent home today due to damage to the Thorndon school's atrium.
A large pane of glass was broken in the atrium ceiling following the quake.
Ms Davidson said the school's buildings are structurally sound, but the concern is around the safety of access ways, stairwells and the atrium.
The school is set to remain closed on Monday.
Students who have exams scheduled for Monday will still sit these exams but will do so in a different building.
