Some Wellington buses are set to be impacted tomorrow after an "unexpected" strike was called, with a number of bus services cancelled.

Greater Wellington Regional Council urge commuters to check the Metlink website, and possibly make alternative travel arrangements.

Tramways Union union members who work for operator NZ Bus have called the strike reportedly over terms and conditions of employment.

The strike is set for 8am to 4pm tomorrow, meaning the following routes during those times would be cancelled: 2, 3, 12, 14, 18, 18E, 20, 21, 22, 28, 30, 31, 33, 34, 35, 36, 81, 83, 84, and 85.

"Although the strike only relates to the routes listed, it could affect other routes as customers look for alternative buses to make their journeys," the council said in a statement.

"Metlink has informed essential services, and is in constant contact with all bus operators to keep customers updated through its website and social media channels, as well as through public information on radio and at bus stops."
